I have worked in various art mediums since those college days, including oil painting, drawing, jewelry casting, and stained glass window making. Since studying ceramic arts at Moorpark College from 1997-2001, I have spent the majority of my time pursuing my creative passion to make beautiful, functional pottery. It is indeed a joy to create these pieces, and I hope that this is passed on to each person who touches and uses my artware. My creations are not just for special occasions, but for daily use in creating beauty where one would normally find the mundane. Using art in everyday life reminds us that every day is special and worth celebrating in small ways. Each pottery piece is individually hand built or wheel thrown. Most pieces are made of porcelain, with a few crafted from white or buff stoneware. My work is bisque-fired, glazed, and refired in an electric kiln in my studio to 2240 degrees. Glazes have been carefully formulated to be safe for food consumption, frequent dishwasher use, microwave, and pre-heated oven. Healthwise, you may have noted that my show schedule is far less than it has been some years. I've been battling atrial fibrillation (heart irregularities), and it has certainly kept me out of my studio as my energy level has dropped. Twice now I've undergone cardiac ablation and hope that soon I'll be once again running up the electric bill from my kiln! In the meantime, I've been making my studio a more comfortable working environment: insulating the garage and adding a heating and air conditioning unit. That should help my production level!
